Antique Chinese 19th C Canton Export Hand Embroidered Piano Shawl Stole Signed For Sale
This is a lovely antique Chinese Canton Export hand embroidered ivory coloured silk piano shawl stole made for the European market in the late 19th century. Gorgeous! An unusual & unique silk stole with a knotted tassel fringe on three sides and a beautiful aqua silk lining that can be folded over and worn as a contrasting collar, as seen in photos or not, depending on your fancy. This shawl is in excellent condition, clean with no holes or tears.The shawl measures 57 inches long by 17 & 1/2 inches wide and the tassel fringe is 7 inches long. It has several hand embroidered birds, flowers and a butterfly as well as a most unusual signature in Chinese characters This bit of embroidery has run just a tiny bit due to the fact that vegetable dye was used.
