At some point a mature camphor tree ended up in a tidal river off the South China sea. After a century or more of natural wear and smoothing of the roots by the movement of the water, the softer wood is removed and the hardwood is left with a naturally polished surface. The tree is discovered and an artist uses his trained eye and selects a section of the root that has the balance he is looking for.
The result is this wonderful piece of art.Region: Fujian
