Antique Chinese Black Silk Gold Couching Embroidered Sleeve Band Cuffs Robe Coat

This vintage antique Chinese black silk gold couching embroidered sleeve band cuffs robe coat dates from the 1920s. It is made of a black silk fabric, with gold metallic thread couching embroidery work, which tiny red stitches hold the couching work together giving it a contrasting copper color appearance, pale pink soutache raised outline with cutwork appliqués and colorful silk damask weave brocade ribbon trim with woven decorative designs and the endless knot a symbol of longevity and eternity. There are gold couching embroidered bats, birds roundels medallions, Ji the Chinese character for luck and Xi the character for joy. The robe has finely embroidered bright royal blue silk sleeve band cuffs with colorful silk raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work of birds, butterflies, bats and flowers. This beautiful unique robe surcoat has a long mid length loose fitting boxy style, with long full sleeves, an embroidered fish, lotus flower mandarin collar, is missing the button closures on the front and has been relined in a bright blue cotton fabric inside. The coat measures 34 inches long, with a 56 inch chest and 54 inch hips. It is in good as-is condition, with a small frayed split on the bottom front side and several small stains on one sleeve cuff (see close-ups). This is truly a wonderful piece of wearable Chinese embroidery textile art!
