This is an UNUSUAL and highly decorative ANTIQUE CHINESE BRASS VASE, believed to date to the period between 1910-1925. The vase displays a wide variety of decorative techniques to excellent effect.
The brass vase is 4 1/2\" high and about 4 3/4\" in diameter. The rim and base are applied and soldered. There are 2 medallions designs about 2 1/2\" in diameter on opposite sides that feature a motif of birds amid flowering plants that exhibit chased and engraved metal as well as applied fired-on enamel.The medallions are surrounded by a keyed border that iscloisonné. Between the medallions on opposite sides are applied vines with individually cut and applied leaves with engraved detail. Each vine has two applied \"fruit\" or \"jewels\" which are cabochon shaped and are stone or glass, held in place with a soldered brass setting.A most unusual and harmonious combination of techniques for one piece!
Marked \"China\" on the bottom.
Some light corrosion around the vines, with uneven patination and a splash mark on one side.
