A Fabulous Antique Cantonese Export Carved Ox Bone and Embroidered Silk Fan dated to between 1880-1900 - In its Original Black Lacquered Fitted Wooden Box - Mint Condition

Description

This fan was made specifically for export to the European market. It is made of carved and pierced ox (cattle) bone sticks and a single silk leaf. The guardsticks are beautifully carved with roses. The leaf is embroidered with pastel coloured silk threads and shows a dragon among clouds. The double silk tassel may or may not be original, I am not sure.
The fan measures approx. 8\" long and 14.75\" wide at its widest point. The measurements for this fan in centimeters are 20 cm long and 37.5 cm wide.
The fan is in perfect condition (see photos). The silk colours look fresh and the sticks have a nice patina.
The fan comes in its original black lacquered and gold painted fitted cardboard box. The cardboard fitting also still has the original cotton wool padding on which the fan rests (it is the original box, but it appears to have been intended for a slightly larger fan, hence the wool padding). The inside of the lid bears a blue handpainted silk panel showing a large bird (pheasant) and flowers. The box is in very good condition with the exception of two minor scuffs on one side and a hairline crack on the underside (see last photos).

Packaging and postage WITH INSURANCE, TRACKING AND REGISTRATION to the UK via Airmail will cost £8.20, within Europe via Airmail £8.20 (ca. 9.60 Euro), overseas via Airmail £8.30 (ca. US$13.00).
I will gladly combine items for shipping (but I require payment before items can be held back for combined shipping). I always refund excess shipping costs.
