This antique Chinese red silk embroidered butterfly peony skirt panel robe trim dates from the 1920s. It is made of a red silk fabric background, with varying shades of blue raised padded satin stitch hand embroidery work with Peking knot stamen peony flowers, butterflies with swastika Chinese character for ten thousand, longevity and waves of water along the bottom. This beautifully embroidered textile remnant might have come off of an older Manchu robe, or wedding skirt panel and has been professionally matted onto a newer silk damask weave patterned fabric border trim matting and brown silk backing suitable and ready for framing. The embroidery work measures 11 by 6 inches and with the additional framed matting is 15 by 11 inches. It is in excellent condition, with only some small paper label remnants and staining on the silk backing. This is truly a beautiful one of a kind piece of antique Chinese textile embroidery art!
