An interestingold 19th century piece from China/ possiblyAfrican tribal or Persian?

This necklace pendant is also a box with a removable back. Possibly for keeping opium or tabacco snuff.

What ever it use its construction is really interesting.

first the core is bronze with a brass like finish which from the looks of it was then silver plated in areas. On the front panelthin layers of real solid silver have beenchased with a patternthen applied to the front. There is also filigree silver wire around the central raised area. The coloured stones are made from glass enamel we think.There is a stamped design to the removable lid.

The top and bottom mounts could eachbe strung witha necklace chain or rope.

Condition:All surfaces to this piece are worn due to age. The silver work to the front is very dirty and would really respond to a clean. The centre most stone ischipped. The box lid at the back fits in nicely and stays however is it a little dented in (couldeasily be straightend out
