Beautiful antique Chinoiserie wooden box. The top and sides of the box are cinnabar red lacquer with gold trim, while the inside and bottom are black lacquer. Hand painted Chinoiserie lid with scene including cranes, trees and reeds in gold, silver and grey. There is a lock at the front, but no key. The metal lock hardware and the box hinges have a red tint. Large enough to use as a jewelry box, or to hold cards, letters or other special keepsakes.Dimensions: 6-15/16” wide by 6” deep by 2-5/16” tall.In good condition overall with some signs of wear, most notably some chipping of lacquer around the bottom outside edge, but particularly so on the left hand side. The interior is clean and free of odors. Please see photos for full description. No markings...likely Chinese or Japanese in origin.
