From my Medical Collection: Here we have a Civil War Era,Antique, Rare 19th Century Brass \'London Dome Ear Trumpet\' Horn Hearing Aid.There are no Maker marks. This type ofhearing device was used from the 1850\'s to approx. 1930. This style of trumpet was named because ofits similarity in shape to the dome on St. Paul’s Cathedral in London, England.The design is a parabolic reflector that directs the sound into the ear tube.This achieves considerable gain while maintaining a small size. This solid brass instrument has a small hard rubber or gutta-percha ear tip which has a chip out of the end. The trumpet body has a small dent (see pic) and othermarks. Nice The instrument is 3-1/2\" tall with a 2\"diameter trumpet opening. Great example for your medical collection, medicaloffice or Civil War era display !
