Campaign/Lap Desks were popular during the Civil War, used to correspond while travelling. The wood is Walnut, w brass hinges, inside is folding striped cotton lined writing surface which opens to expose storage compartment for letters and pens. The desk also contains 2 compartments for ink bottles, & 1 pigeonhole the brass piece is in box. This is in fine antique condition, please see pictures for more detail on this very old lap desk.
