Antique Compote With Makers Mark Hand Painted and Signed:
$45.00

This lovely antique hand painted compote came from a Massachusetts Estate sale. The artist has signed their very talented work - it appears to be H. Coury - it is signed on the plate part on the lower right. There is also a makers mark on the bottom and it is from the Ernst Wahliss Company - this particular mark was used from 1899-1918, there is also a number on the bottom of 9210 and also 5931. The size of this plate is 9\" wide by 6 1/4\" tall, the base 5\" wide. The only wear we can see to this beautiful piece is one side on the very edge and a little on the handles- some of the gold is worn off but it really is not noticeable. There are no chips or cracks or crazing on this piece - it is in great shape and would be the perfect addition to your hutch.
1863 The Ernst Wahliss business was founded in Trnovany, Czech Republic (Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, Austria). The business had retail stores in London, England and Vienna, Austria where it sold Bohemian porcelain. 1894 Wahliss bought the Alfred Stellmacher Imperial and Royal Porcelain Factory (founded in 1859). Ernst died in 1900. In 1902, his sons, Hans and Erich, bought 600 original molds from the former Imperial and Royal Porcelain Manufactory in Vienna and made reproductions of the Vienna porcelain.
