Here is an old Conservatory violin that is of exceptional quality. It does need work, the top has a number of cracks and old repaired cracks. I don\'t think any of the cracks around the bass bar are actually on the bass bar, but off to one side or another, there looks to be an old repaired crack off the treble side f hole that may run over where the sound post goes, the post is down. I think this violin is very light and the wood is good and thin, which usually means a very nice responsive player. Back measures 14 1/8\" in length, bouts are 8 1/8\" and 6 9/16\". Two piece back and sides are very fine looking with good flame. The instrument had an antiqued finish originally I believe, so it looks very nice now. The neck and scroll are of nice flame and the scroll is very well carved. Overall a superior instrument, well worth restoration. Nice violin, fresh out of a Chicago estate.
