What an interesting little porridge pot I have stumbled upon. The piece is entirely hand made and has unusual markings on it. The pot measures 6 3/4\" tall without the lid. With the lid on it is 9\" to the top tip of the handle. The bottom is concave in the center and has a diameter of 3 1/2\" at the bottom. It is 7\" at the widest point. The lid has a 5 1/2\" diameter. The markings I could not photograph all of them as some are hand engraved and very faint. Stamped into the piece on both lid and pot are ID numbers. They are slightly different. The lid has the letter I 24 no 287 the pot is I 24 no 289. This is probably the I is the person who made it and number 24 is the piece and then the quantity. The base has very fine faded hand markings right below the serial number. it is the number 33 which is not scratched in but made with little impressed dots. Also on the base is a not photoed impressed #10 and another marking also impressed in an upside down V and an L . I think this is the volume of the pot. The lid has some numbers hand scratched into it and the most interesting is the number 1767 but the 1st 7 is also a 6 that looks like they made it into a 7. There are lots of very faint surface markings some numbers and letters spread out over the. I wonder if this was a military issue pot or belonged to someone who kept an inventory of the cookware. The piece also has a handmade iron ring on the lid. One of the copper side joints is torn a little at the rivet see photos.
