Up for sale is an old antique sabre. When I first salvaged it from an antique sale, it was absolutely covered in rust. The old man I bought it from told me this was \"very old\" and it\'s been in the family for a while. I soaked it in vinegar for 24 hours and the many, many layers of rust wiped right off with a cloth, but, it definitely does have some dark spots and lots of aging. Further cleaning probably is possible. Look at the close-up images as those provide the most details which my camera doesn\'t pick up on from afar. The blade is definitely iron, I\'m pretty sure, or steel. There is an embossed design all throughout the sword, it just gets sort of lost in the tarnished / worn off areas. But if you look closely, you can see that there definitely is a design. It appears to be hand forged. I cannot make out a maker\'s mark. The sword is VERY dull and needs sharpening. One thing to note is that the tip of the sword looks somewhat strange. It looks like someone tried to shape it and make it pointy but it ended up looking a bit like an arrowhead and has dents and markings where someone was working on it with tools. I am trying to describe the sword as best as I can, but, I cannot stress enough that pictures can explain everything much better than I can, so please look through them to note all the flaws. This sword appears to be very old, so, of course it has wear and tear. The handle, I was told, is probably newer than the blade because the old man I bought this off of said his father replaced the handle (which was in really bad shape) with this ornate brass horse head one.
All in all, the blade measures 29\" long approx. It\'s a few inches longer (I took it apart when I soaked it in vinegar) but that part fits into the handle so you can\'t see it. So, the visible portion of the blade is 29\" long approx. The total length of the sword is 33\" long in total.
