This sale is for an Antique Dark Historical Blue Staffordshire Sugar Bowl in the Striking Water Girl Pattern.
The pattern depicts a girl getting water from a well with a dog sitting nearby and a border of large flowers.
The piece is unmarked but was clearly produced circa 1820 by one of the potteries that operated in the Staffordshire region of England at the time, such as Clews.
The sugar bowl, sometimes referred to as a sugar box, measures 5 3/4 inches long and 6 1/2 inches tall, including the lid.
The bowl was a recent estate sale purchase. There are old glue repairs of long and winding cracks to the body of the bowl (last four photos) and chips on the edge of the lid (photos 7 & 8) and nicks to the lid opening of the bowl. I do not believe the lid is original to the bowl as it appears to be a slightly different pattern, although it is close and pairs nicely with the bowl.
Even with the issues, the piece Displays Nicely with Deep Color and Lovely subject matter and is a Great Example of early 19th century historical blue.
