Description:
CIRCA 1900…Museum deaccession. A superb Edwardian Battenburg lace ensemble consisting of bodice and skirt with a wide cream silk sash. There are opulent florals and leaves ,some with three dimensional design and fine Valencienne lace ruffles in the design. The sleeves have two layers,a inner net sleeve with three heavily ruched Valencienne ruffles with ribbon rosettes and then the scalloped overlay sleeves matching the design on the bodice.. There is a inner fine cotton of chintz cream silk lining with stays and lovely cream silk waistband with bows and hanging sash at the back. The bodice measures apprx.28-30” around waist,22” and some across chest, apprx.almost 9” across armhole.15” aound high neck collar which also has ribbon insetion and bows at the back.The bodice is in very goodcondition, some light verynarrow age stain under arms and at edge of collar.MINOR in every respect as this item has not been laundered. It wa preserved well by the museum. The tapered skirt has a three layers at the bottom of the gown and has scalloped edges. There is a inner cotton or chintz cream lining with ruffled edge.Measuring apprx. 26”across chest for bodice, waistline on bodice apprx.28-30\". The skirt waistline measurement is apprx. 24\".apprx. 42” down from waist to edge at the front of skirt and 52-54” at back. In very good strong condition, there are some repairs on plain net, this area has the ornate lace covering it and so is not seen, one repair on edge and one area near bottom of gown that has some age spots that need some spot treatment. Overall minor compared to the very good condition of the ensemble.When we photgraphed it was dark outside so..pics dont do justice. The gown is much more beautiful than pics show.
