Description: This sale is for a truly stunningantique early 1800’s hand-painted oval brooch. I have acquired four of theselovely brooches; this is the last one, and is especially beautiful. The brooch washand-painted either in Russia or in the Slavic nations of the era. This isevident in the attire worn by the subject and her features, which arereminiscent of Eastern Europeans. According to the former owner, this was paintedin either Russia or Eastern Europe during the early 1800’s, and I tend toagree. The ceramic oval is encased in an intricate yellow-gold or brass findingthat is smooth around the brooch. I believe it is brass, not karat gold. Thefinding is quite beautiful, with a ribbon-like design encircling the ceramicoval. The portrait itself is quite lovely with a lovely woman with her head ina coquettish angle – with a mesmerizing smile to finish off the flirting. Sheappears to be wearing a teal colored dress with a beautiful Moriage-like(raised or stippled paint) lace collar with a lavender bow at the left. Shealso has a Moriage pearl necklace at her throat. What is unusual is that herhair – in a huge bouffant with curls down the back – appears to be a darkbrown/gray. It, too, has a smattering of Moriage pearls running through it inrows. Her head has a background of burgundy and ivory. The detailing of herface is exceptional and looking through a magnifying glass shows how impeccablethe artist was. Her black eyes have a shadow of blue/gray at the lids. Her pertmouth and cheeks are rosy, and her arched brows match her hair color. Thereverse side of this fantastic brooch is white ceramic with an antique ‘c’closure with an ‘N’ and maybe an ‘o.’ This pin is in striking condition for itsage (roughly 1800-1820), and would be a beautiful gift or addition to yourcollection!

ConditionReport: Height: 2-1/4 inches atthe tallest; Width 1-7/8 inches at the widest; Depth 3/8 inch.
