For your consideration is an early twentieth century (perhaps late nineteenth century) card game entitled, AUTHORS OF TO-DAY. It was published by H.S. CUTLER of Brookline, Massachusetts. The game consists of 100 cards (4 cards each representing 25 authors and their works). It is of interest not only because of the large number of writers included in a single deck but because of the authors themselves. The writers typically included (such as Alcott, Dickens, Longfellow, Shakespeare, Tennyson, Twain et al.) are nowhere to be found. Rather they are replaced by authors of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, including nine women, as follows:

The publisher of the game, H.S. Cutler of Brookline, Massachusetts, is not listed in standard game references and I have been unable to locate mention of the company in on-line sources. [If you have any information regarding the publisher, kindly inform me. Thank you.]CONDITION: GOOD condition. COMPLETE with 100 cards (25 sets of 4) in original box. No instructions. Cards are in good condition with no corner creases, bends or folds; cards are soiled and stained and a few have heavy scuffs that have led to small amounts of paper loss. MOUSE OVER IMAGES FOR CONDITION DETAILS. Both box top and bottom are intact with glue repair to one corner of the box top. Cover label is rubbed, soiled and stained. Orange box aprons are rubbed and soiled.
