A Mid 20th Century Church Liturgical Christian Icon

Embroidered in Gold Metallic Threads and Gold & Deep

Wine Red Silk Threads

features Four pointed Medallion depicts The Saint - JESUS CHRIST with Three - Rayed Nimbus

around His head, holding Chalice in His left hand andSymbol IHS with a Three-Steps Cross

above in His right hand.

Medallion is outlined with a padded gold metallic threads border & scrolling leaves and set on an emerald green

appears to be woven silk & cotton field, with four stitched corners.

The icon is mounted into wood frame with glass. The frame has ribbed wooden back and old wire gadget for hanging.

Three-rayed nimbus signifies divinity and is used only with any Person of the Trinity.Rays of light were ancient emblems of divine power.

IHS - a depiction of the first three letters ( iota ι, eta η·, sigma σ‚) of the Greek spelling of Jesus (Ιησούς).

Three-Step Cross, Graded Cross - Latin Cross.The steps, from the top down, stand for Faith, Hope and Charity.

Dimensions approximately: 13 5/8\" x 13 7/8\" - framed

10 1/2\" x 10 1/2\" embroidered green field inside of frame

8 1/2\" x 8 1/2\" - four-pointed medallion with Saint only ( without leaves and scrolling details)

Total weight approx.: 3.7 lbs without box and protection material.

Attributed most likely back to the middle of 20th Century, probably earlier..

CONDITION REPORT:The Iconis in RARE !!!!!excellent condition with some soiling to the green field inside of frame, and some wear to the frame finish.

Wedidn\'t observe this icon out of frame and sell it in as found framed & glass condition.
