~Fromour most recent container, we have several outstanding religious artifactsincluding this custom hand carved Bible/altar stand.~

Highlyskilled hand carvings, obviously a commissioned piece, most probably for aCatholic altar and used in Communion, as the carvings depict various emblems ofthe Eucharist:

~Lowerfront center has a dimensionally carved CHALICE in the center with “HIS” surrounded bygold gilt rays. Flanked on either sideby a sheaf of WHEATand GRAPES (wheatof course representing ‘bread of life’)~

~Leftside features a mother PELICANfeeding her chicks (“if the chicks are dying for lack of food, the motherpierces it’s own breast to feed its young with it’s own blood”); surrounded bygold gilt rays and carved lilies~
~Rightside features a LAMBsitting on a CROSSand TOMB surroundedby the gold gilt rays and carved lilies~

~c1880 or earlier~

~Other items from this container include ahuge antique baptismal font cover, Bible stands, Bible boxes and cast ironcross cemetery markers!~

Measurements:

15”height x 16” x 13”;

1.5” extended gallery for bookrest;

green baize/felt, approx.. 15” x 13”.

Condition:

This item is in good condition for its age, with normal signs ofage and use, dings, scratches, and other imperfections. The raised gallery has a repaired crack;various chips to the edges of the carvings, as to be expected. I don’t know that the green baize/felt/fabricis original, but I will guess not, due to the age of the stand. I always provide multiple photos that shouldbe considered as an integral part of the description and I encourage you toemail me with any questions you might have prior to offerding.
