~Fromour most recent buying trip, we have an ENTIRE COLLECTION of antique English“gentleman’s cabinets”!! Many have dated,engraved presentation plaques, and ALL of them are fabulous!~

~Typicallythese boxes were used for storing pipes, Tobacco, and game cards for men. Today, our customers use them as conversationpieces, decorative items, and YES, as jewelry boxes!!~

~THISbox/cabinet is one of the largest we’ve seen in over ten years and it has everyfeature you’ll find in ANY of these cabinets~
~Upperopen gallery has carved scalloped top (display area above the cabinet) and withcomplimenting scalloped trim along the lower cabinet~

~Largedouble doors have beveled glass uppers and paneled tiger oak lower doors, allframed with triple grooved lines ~

~FITTEDINTERIOR has SEVEN drawers, each with the original brass handle (DATED, seebelow)….and a multitude of SEVEN open areas with scalloped trim. Upper center has two holders for 3 pipeseach~

~Impressed stamp inside on the wood has British mark,

“Rd. 236188” which dates it to approx.. 1895”~

~ALSO the backside of the brass handles are stamped “Rd.228187” which would date it to 1897.~

(I always find it so cool when the original handles havetheir date stamps)

Measurements:

24.5”height x 22.5” x 8”;

(hanging hooks add another 1” to the width).

This item is in good condition for its age, with normal signs ofage and use, dings, scratches, and other imperfections. No breaksto the original beveled glass. Left sidetip of the upper finial missing; little brass key escutcheon has a break; allof these are minor and noted here for disclosure purposes only. Key included but old locks are neverguaranteed as they can shift during shipment.
