This listing is for a lovely antique Art Deco Era guilloche enameland Sterling Silvercompact signed F&B STERLING for Foster & Bailey, made around 1910-1920s\'. It has a finger ring anda chain attached.This beautifulcompact is made entirely of sterling silver. Outer band is pale aqua with dainty exquisite roses, bouquet and garland decorated center.The back is solid smooth silver.The measurements are 1 3/4\" in diameter by 1/2\"high with a 3 1/2\" chain that can be removed so the compact can be worn as a pendant too.
CONDITION:
With an exception of minimal surface wear with hard to see hairline scratches and a shallow dent on the top of enamel that penetrates to the silver edge only by a millimeter or so, this lovely compact is in excellent antique condition: mirror is pristine, chain and finger ring are great, the hinge is flawless, the clasp closes with a snap, the alignment is perfect, colors are beautifully preserved .Please look at the many pictures I am posting for detailed assessment.
Guilloché (Guilloche) technique was invented in Europe, in 17th century, at the very beginning of Industrial Era. It is a decorative engraving that involves a technique of engine turning called guilloché in French after the French engineer “Guillot”, who invented a machine “that could scratch fine patterns and designs on metallic surfaces.” Peter Carl Faberge started applying translucent enamel over guilloché metal on Faberge eggs and other decorative objects from the 1880\'s. The last machines were manufactured around 1948–1949
