Click to View Image Album Exquisite antique French sewing kit, complete in original carved fitted case. The pieces have matching solid 18K gold handles (NOT vermeil) with steel tool parts. The thimble is all solid 18K, but it has some damage, as pictured. The crown is dented and looks like a fine top layer with the honeycomb pattern is missing in spots, like peeled off. No holes and from front with plain panel on band displays nicely. Damage not apparent when thimble is in case. Scissors have solid gold handles and they are 3-7/8\" long. Blades with some slight rust and wear, but sharp and pointy and they look very nice. The 2-piece needlecase is also all solid 18K and excellent, no dents or damage. The sliding retractable pencil has steel fittings inside and stiletto has steel punch with 18K handle. It works properly and looks excellent. The bodkin ribbon threader is steel and maybe a replacement piece (I think original would have also been gold--but not sure). All pieces fit tightly in slots carved inside the case. The lid of case has scrimshaw initials \"B F\". Case is 4-1/4\" x 2-1/2\" and about 5/8\" thick. I am sorry, I cannot find any hallmarks or other marks on any piece. Steel parts have discoloration and signs of age, also some small tarnish spots on gold, I have not cleaned. Bottom of case is darkened from age, but no cracks or other problems. The pieces fit very tightly in case, and if not aligned properly, case will not close, but works good when all in place.
