Here is a antique oil on tin metal portrait painting. The painting depicts a gentleman with a black suit and white shirt and a loose silk sash tie. He has a cane in his hand. I think the artwork has a folk art look about it. The frame is a stunning French style heavy wood and compo decorated frame. The compo/gesso barbola is flowers,roses, and ribbons in very high relief.The entire piece measures 19 x 23 5/8 ins. and painting alone measures 13 x 17 1/2 ins. It has an old conservator\'s label on the back saying it was conserved in 1991.The painting is in fair/good as is vintage condition with some surface scratches( probably happened since conservation obviously),and the frame is in good as is condition. The frame is heavy for its size.
I would date this painting to the 1850-60s time period. I have no history about who the subject is.I am unsure if it is American or European, but leaning towards English.
