For sale a beautiful French gilt brass and faux tortoise shell jewelry box. Would be hard to find a nicer jewelry box than this, incredible detail in the gilt brass castings and nicely done hand painted lady on top. In very nice original condition, gilt brass in very nice condition and the faux tortoise shell in good shape as well. The shell on the top lid has a couple of cracks and has warped, typical of something that is this old. The shell on the sides and back is in good shape. The very well done painting is signed, looks like Derval but I could be mistaken. Inside on the bottom of the painted piece looks like the signature of the painted sitter, Marie, but I cannot make out the rest of the name. The casting on this box is incredible, looks closely at the detail, a sign of true quality. The box measures 6\" wide, 4 1/2\" deep and about 2 1/2\" high. I\'ve done some slight research on this but can find nothing like it. If you collect these sorts of things it would be hard to find any nicer. .
