~~~This is an excellent early 19th century highly carved French oak GOTHIC blanket box, coffer, trunk or storagechest. Just in from our recent French container~~~FULL of CHARACTER! Notice the highly carved linen fold top and sides~~~iron hinges and iron handles on sides. Nice rich dark oak patina .This piece is solid oak~~~HEAVY, sturdy and stable.Thesechests were originally used as strongboxes for holding money, jewelry and other valuables. The perfect size for a foyer, entry hall or mudroom bench, chest for the foot of a bed, or as a coffee table.
