Featuring a rich cobalt blue ground hand painted with raised gold enamel floral accents. The lid decorated with a hand painted portrait of a gentleman in period costume with a loyal dog at his side, depicted by a serene lake and pastoral setting. In his hands is a love letter, as he directs a dove where to take his message to. Artist signed, though illegible. Surrounded by raised gilt enamel scrolling foliage and flowers. The box is encircled by gilt bronze hinged mounts. Opening to reveal hand painted clusters of colorful flowers. Marked to the base with a pair of crossed arrows for the Bourdois & Bloch firm. Also known as Porcelaine de Paris, the firm was founded in 1864 by Jean Marx Clauss producing decorative porcelain and figurines in the style of Meissen, Sevres & Vienna. In good condition with some wear commensurate with age. No chips or cracks. Patina and discoloration to the bronze mounts. Measures 2 7/8\" square x 1 1/2\" height.
