Antique French Lebeuf Montereau Faience Black Printed Plate Napoleon Lodi c 1840 Here we have a highly collectable, interesting and rare antique French creamware plate dating from around 1840.The plate was produced by the renowned factory of Montereau and has their impressed mark along with the printed mark Louis Lebeuf, Montereau.The 21 cm diameter plate has a black transfer printed scene titled Lodi which shows Napoleon Bonaparte and his army in battle.The battle of Lodi was one in a series of the French Revolutionary wars. The battle was fought between the French Revolutionary Arrmy led by General Napoleon Bonaparte and the Austrian army at Lodi, Lombardy, in present day Italy.The plate has a number 4 within the design, showing that it was part of a series of 12 honouring a variety ofFrench battle scenes.The plate has an interesting repeatingborder pattern that consists ofdrums, swords or sabres, bugles, cannon, Flags, Tricolour, military standards, and an eagle a symbolused by Napoleon in the first French Empire.The plate is in good antique, used condition with a little staining and knife marks, commensurate with age and use.
