The wheel cut agate handle is beautiful, with bands of fiery red and pale amber. Decorated in exquisite wheel cut facets and paneling. Finished with an ornate chased and embossed .800/1000 silver matrix. Bearing engraved initials EP in gothic script. Measures 2\". Hallmarked with the French head of the wild boar in use from 1838 to indicate a silver content of .800/1000. The mark was typically used on small objects of at least 80% pure silver content, close to .925 sterling. In overall good condition with general wear, there appears to be a small notch on the edge of the handle visible in the photo and appears to be a natural flaw in the agate stone.
