Antique snuff boxes are particularly appealing to me as a collection item. I have a small vitrine loaded with them, after drooling over same in the Jaquemart-Andre Museum collection in Paris a few years ago. Even grouped on a table top they are irresistible, aren\'t they. And this one is special enough to fit into the most sophisticated collection. The inset cartouche is a lovely still life painting, florals and an urn on table, and perhaps had some special significance to the original owner. Often we see these with personal portraits, but this one is really charming and perhaps represents the gifts given to a mistress or lover, a little \'thank you\' snuff box to remind the bearer of the person who had it commissioned. We\'ll never know the stories behind so many of the antiques we acquire and sell, but they fascinate just the same, don\'t they. The rim is either 14k, or 18k gold. Very good to excellent condition throughout, for age and type. This would be a mid-1800s snuff box, and it is without chips or cracks or bug bites or damage. A little evidence of age and perhaps a rub or two or abrasion on bottom from resting on surfaces over time. Isn\'t it beautiful!

Insurance has been eliminated as an option by , forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replacable. Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is recieved (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
