Antique Georgian Brooch Brooch…..

This is such a pretty brooch and dates to around 1830.

It is in 18ct yellow gold with a pierced gallery mount. It is setwith four beautiful pear cut topaz stones and one central oval one forming the shape of a cross. They are a beautiful pale lemon colour and are natural and untreated - each stone is approx/ just over 1 carat (the central stone is higher and deeper) making 5 carat in total. These are thenseparated by four turquoise cabochons.

Hand-made, this would originally have been sewn to a garment –perhaps the bodice of a dress and you can just about see on the top rail at theback, two minute tubes just large enough to pass thread through.

At some point it has been converted to a pin brooch – probably duringthe Victorian period – to make it more practical – the pin is base metal andthere also is a loupe where perhaps there was a safety chain too at one point.

I love the stones in this brooch and it would make a fantastic ring!

There are no marks and I have tested it as 18ct.

Size is: 2.5cm (1”) long x 2.7cm (just over 1” high)
