To travel the world experiencing other cultures and faraway locales is both a dream and a goal for many of us, and was considered an even more exotic pastime during the Victorian era. Only a fortunate few had the wherewithal to make globe trotting such a reality! Presented here for your favorite adventuress is this lot of antique doll sized souvenirs, suitable for display with your antique German bisque and French fashion dolls! Each piece in this lot was acquired for a muse named Luise, a Victorian doll of some means and intelligence, who had a yen to see the world. The first picture shows the lot in its entirety, with all the travel souvenirs packed into the suitcase that Luise used to bring her worldly treasures home in. Subsequent photos detail the items more closely.

Photos 2 through 6 showcase souvenirs culled from various points on the globe including Mexico, where the hand painted wooden maracas were acquired. Measuring a mere 2 1/2\" long, the rose decorated pair make a satisfying little rattle when shaken. The lidded woven basket was a souvenir from somewhere in South America. It contains some REALLY tiny treasures, including an even tinier handled basket, less than a half inch in height, and the smallest clay pottery ever! There is also a little silver Chinese doll in traditional regional clothing who carries his OWN  little basket. A delicate Japanese paper box with colorful graphics holds curious bits and pieces inside that may be the \"WATER FLOWERS\" advertised on the outside. The tiny 1 1/4\" ship-in-a-bottle hails from the shores of the Atlantic Ocean along the east coast of the United States. Tiny wooden clogs measuring no more than 7/8\" long were a keepsake to remind Luise of her days spent in Holland.

Pictures 7 and 8 feature some fine display pieces brought back home to adorn the walls in the parlor, where guests could appreciate Luise\'s worldliness, which she is happy to promote! Amongst these artistic finds is a bit of Victorian scrap from Germany held within a gilded wooden frame under glass, of pretty little children. From the land of the rising sun comes the tin lithographed plate featuring long legged cranes. Jolly old England provided Luise with a plaster casting with a scene of a bustling seaport. No grand tour would be complete without this fabulous find from Italy--a lovely micro mosaic frame--a souvenir that was all the rage for the Victorian traveler.

Pictured in photos 9 and 10 is the suitcase that holds Luise\'s travel souvenirs. It is an antique piece, made from paper covered cardboard, with leather straps and handle (damaged). It has oilcloth corner reinforcements and the original brass clasp, and measures 5 5/8\" by 3 1/4\" by 1 5/8\". It was likely a candy container at one time.

I have several other lots of French fashion accessories listed, with more to come, as pictured in photographs 11 and 12. Shown here as backdrop for this sale are more accessories for the world traveler. The folding screen, carpet, and basket are not included here, but can be seen in separate sales.
