Beautiful large 24” J.D. Kestner child doll, Made in Germany ca.1900. Bisque socket head, mold 171 (some refer to this mold as“Daisy”), strawberry blonde mohair wig, ball jointed body, original plaster dome pate. She has a beautiful face with brushed eyebrows, fixed brown glass eyes, painted upper and lower lashes, an open mouth with 4 teeth, and a dimple in her chin. Shaded nostrils and eye corners, outlined lips, toes and fingers.


Practically flawless quality bisque head with gentle coloring, skilled painting of features, good modeling of pretty dolly face. The body in superior original finish, with the hands and feet in Excellent Condition. Appears to have an original sleepy eye mechanism, which has been repaired and glued in fixed position. Eyes are beautiful brown glass.They do not move. Minorrubs to the balls in the joints, and some paint flaking and surface cracks around the neck edge and extremities. Repaired ring finger on right hand. Firmly strung—may have been restrung.


Wearing an antique dress that has significant staining, an underskirt, pantaloons, socks and antique leather shoes. Possibly not original clothing. Will ship nude or dressed, please specify.


Marks: “H Made in Germany 12 // 171” (head) “Germany 4” (body). 11½” bisque head circumference, 171 mold. Excelsior 4 body.

About Kestner Dolls:

Johann Daniel Kestner Jr. (JDK) of Waltershausen, Thuringia, Germany began making papier mache and wood dolls and toys as early as 1816. In 1858 J.D. Kestner passed away and his grandson Adolf eventually took over the running of the company, around 1860 Kestner produced wax over papier mache doll heads, by 1860 they acquired the Ohrdruf porcelain factory and began to produce the highly collectible bisque dolls known by collectors today.
