Up for sale is this rareexceptional signed19th c.French champlevé enamel box. You simply don\'t see vanity boxes like this every day. It\'s constructed out of brass and has a beveled glass lid. The upper portion of the box has it\'s original painted burgundy finish, and the bottom portion has its original cream colored paint. Both the top and bottom are accented by beautiful champlevé enameled plates which are trimmed in gilt metal. The box has very beautiful neoclassic style feet which give it an amazing look. In my years of collecting I haven\'t ever seen a French box quite like this one. The gilding has a very nice aged look, but is in quite good condition.That being said, this is an old box and it does reflect it\'s age. The enamel has some loss and grime build up. There is one small sized chip in the right front corner of the lid (see pic 9) As well, the liner is missing and there is one solder joint which has parted on the back side of the lid (visible at top of pic 11)However the lid is not compromised and isstill completely stable. You may also notice that there are a few small dents here and there. All of the afore mentioned issues are due mainly to age, and are to be expected on an item of this age. Things such as the liner and the solder joint could be easilyrepaired.It is still a very beautiful and rare box which would make a fine addition to any collection. It measures 3.75 inchestall 5 inches deep and 6.5 inches long.
