Almost every inch of this small bowl is covered withexuberant repousse decoration that feels almost baroque. The leaf scrolls that spill across thesurface and the framing petal elements are beautifully detailed and finelyworked by the hand of a master smith. Thebackground surface is roughly stippled, which makes the relief of decorationappear even more three dimensional. I believethat this might be a piece of Indian Kutch silver, but the flower with layeredpetals that decorates the bottom and the lack of feet makes me think that itcould also be a Thai piece.

The bowl is unmarked, the lack of marks combined with thequality of the work makes me believe this is likely an older piece, probably 19thcentury. The bowl measures 1 1/16” talland approximately 1 15/16” in diameter.The piece is in very good condition for its age. There is a small splitin the rim, which may be a manufacturing flaw.The edge of the rim and the edge of the foot have a slight depressionand the bottom seems to have an area that is pushed in a bit. There is some light surface wear andscratching that one normally sees in silver of this age. The piece weighs 35.9 grams.
