A very interesting piece, this medal appears to be a picture medal of Pope Leo XIII.On the front, the words \"Leone XIII Pont Mass Roma\" can be found. Roma, I assume, would mean it was made in Italy, though I\'m not certain. Leone is apparently an italian spelling of Leo.I would also assume the medal was made within ten years or so after his 1903 death, that would place the medal at over 100 years old-a true antique, as such.The medal\'s back is quite lovely on its own back, with a beautiful image of Mary surrounded by what appears to be an italian, not latin, rendition of the classic Miraculous Medal prayer.I am uncertain what the medal is made of-I believe it to be copper, but it\'s hard to say without any markings or heavier patina than it has, and it seems a bit heavy for a copper medal.The medal is about an inch and a half in length from bale to base(a bit past 3.5CM), and weighs 6 grams.A wonderful piece.---This listing was made by the family of Karen Doreen Hartsoe Koontz, whose
Franciscan order name was Sister Luke Panteleimon.Sister Luke passed away on 8/24/2013, from liver failure. She was 55.While it would never even occur to us to sell the things she valued, much of what
she left behind was simple stock-only a simple rosewood rosary and a few other
objects meant anything of significance to her personally.In her last days, she mourned that her stock items were not being sold-she saw her
role on as much as a vocation as any other role, to provide inexpensive and
beautiful religious items to people who would have a hard time affording them
otherwise.Given this, simply offloading her stock as a large estate sale or, even worse, for
scrap metal, seems abhorrent. As such, we our trying our best to sell the
remainder of her stock out as she would have wanted.We will try to answer any questions about the stock that you have, but sadly much
of its history is gone with Sister Luke.Sadly, we cannot directly ship outside of the United States-no one in the family has much
free time lately, and the added work is simply not practical right now. We are hoping to use the Global Shipping Program to make this simpler;
International orders may be possible now, thanks to this, but only in areas they serve.Thank you for reading this sale.
