Thispiece measures 1.5 inches tall by 4.25inches long by 3.5 inches wide.It is an antique Japanese bronze water-dropper called Suiteki in theshape of a large grape leaf with clinging vine and grapes.

Suitekiis a small container used to hold the water that is added to theinkstone (Suzuri) during the grinding of the ink stick to produceSumi ink for calligraphy. Water-droppers may be made of manydifferent materials such as ceramic, precious stones and metal likethis piece. The fine craftsmanship shows fine detail and the amazingtransformation of inorganic metal to something so functional andorganic is truly astonishing and delightful to see.

ThisSuiteki has a small hole for air and a small spout for water drops. The condition of this piece is very good and its age is from the mid19th century (Edo period in Japan around 1845 to 1860).
