Antique Japanese Estate Edo - Meiji IMARI Arita Porcelain 13\" DRAGON Footed Low Bowl Charger Platter 19Th.C.
This gold gilted 32.7 cm wide Footed Platter - Bowl - Charger is in excellent condition and is part of a large Estate collection. It is done in a \'scalloped\' or lobed floriform shape with 15 radiating & raised aspects and a central 19.5 cm diameter (max.) central field dominated by a 3 golden toed or clawed Dragon in a Cloud field. The cylindrical \'foot\' ring is 2 cm tall, 16.6 cm in diameter & about 5 to 6 mm thick. This piece stands 5.5 cm tall and has blue underglaze rings along the bottom foot circumference.
There are 5 single (each different) Brocade designs that alternate with 5 doubled petal like rays that are decorated with White Cranes holding Scrolls among clouds on a flat iron red ground cartouche. The white porcelain bottom surface is enameled in blue underglaze (cobalt) with double scroll, losenge and circular motifs in blue underglaze with green, red and orange enamel overglazes.
All decoration is hand painted and about 99.9% intact. Overglaze colors include dull reds and orange, green, turquoise, yellow, lavender and black with gold details (with some loss at the outer rim as shown). There is only one small 3 mm chip at the outer edge of the bottom foot as shown. All in all the condition is near perfect with NO cracks, NO chips, repairs or issues / faults. It is unsigned and without spur or \'stilt\' marks. We feel that this treasure is above typical circa 1850+ Japanese Imari.Sales Tax: California shipping addresses will be charged sales tax of 7.5%.
