Antique Japanese KOMAI SHAKUDO Damascene BUTTERFLY Pendant Necklace in Large Black Leatherette Gift Box*****This is a Fabulous Antique Japanese Komai Shakudo Vintage Damascene Necklace which is exquisitelydecorated. The Necklace has a gorgeous Butterfly Pendant which is Skilfully engraved with black background Design in 24K Gold and Sterling Silver Motifs.The design features intricate inlay work done in mixed metals of Sterling Silver and 24K Gold set within a black shakudo background. The necklace is beautiful and feminine with a large central pendant in the shape of a butterfly. The butterfly pendant has a long drop and is suspended from a round medallion. On either side of the butterfly there are two more lozenge shaped drops. The Necklace\'s individual links which consist of 32 panels that encompasses scenic inlays of Japan with Mountains, Landscapes, tiny Butterflies , Cherry Blossoms/Flowers, Temples, Boats, Birds and various other Floral design that are all breathtaking in their miniature depictions. It is so pretty and skillfully made by a master of metal work. The setting is a brass/copper type metal heavily coated in 24K Gold on the back of necklace as well as the scenes on its front, accented in luscious 24K.ABOUT KUMAI SHAKUDO WARE!\"Komai Shakudo Ware, which was named after a famous Japanese Family of Samurai Sword Fitments Makers, developed a specialized damascene or shakudo mixed metal technique in 1855 that they used to decorate their swords and other artwork. Komai typically has a matte black base of iron or steel. The designs were hand etched into the base metal with a fine needle-point jeweler\'s tool and were then inlaid with precious metals such as Silver and 24k Gold to highlight the intricate designs. Due to the uniqueness and quality, Komai items were highly coveted from the Meiji period on. (1869-1912).\" The Necklace is in Excellent Condition, no tarnish and is coated in 24ct gold plating and is very well made, beautifully crafted and meticulously engraved. The workmanship on this Necklace is so phenomenal and stunning, also the black Shakudo against the 24ct gold plated background adds that finishing touch to this stupendous piece.This gorgeous Kumai Shakudo/Damascene Pendant/Necklace has a Medallion Box Clasp for fastening that matches the rest of the necklace.This necklace is marked K24 for 24ct Gold on its clasp and has been well looked after and dates back to the 1920\'s.
