MEIJI PERIOD VERY FINE CLOISONNE DRAGON VASE

For your consideration, from a Private Japanese Collection, the finest miniature cloisonne Dragon vase, measuring just 5 inches tall with exquisite detail. The dragon is coiled through a haze of clouds, which are so fine they have the appearance of gold flake.

This piece represents the finest of Japanese enamel, called basse taille. \"To create the figure of the dragon, a thin sheet of silver would have been laid on the copper vase. Green translucent enamel, or glass, covers the silver foil, giving the dragon’s scales a shimmery effect.\"
