DescriptionHere we have a lovely example of c 1880 - 1900 Nippon porcelain moriage / beaded ware. This fabulous antique vase has a most intricate and ornate design featuring raised sections with profuse beading, and central cartouches with hand painted floral sprays.The term moriage describes the raised slip decoration applied for porcelain or pottery - a bit like a baker icing a cake. This is very time consuming and skilled work. The technique of beading, where hundreds of small dots of clay slip are applied to a piece of porcelain, which is then fired and painted, is also very labour intensive.This beautiful vase has a pale green background and features crimson and darker green detailing. The floral panels on the main body of the vase are each slightly different.

It is a high quality item and possibly made by Noritake. There are no maker\'s marks on the vase, as is

often the case with moriage items. Quite often these pieces had paper labels but if there was one, this

has long since gone.

Condition is all important for collectors of moriage ware, as its fragile and intricate style often means it

has suffered damage over the years. This piece is in remarkable condition and would make a wonderful

addition to any collection.

The vase weighs 610g unpacked.
