The People\'s index typewriter was first produced in 1891, invented by C. Sjoberg of Brooklyn, was an extremely simple semi-circular index machine with a large typewheel. Character selection was done on the index card and printing was done with the key on the left that brought the platen forward against the typewheel. It was made by the Garvin Machine Company , New York. This one is in beautiful condition and works smoothly. The ribbon still retains its two steel rings to hold it in place but ribbon needs replacing. Cast in top of character wheel is \"Pat. Apl\'d For, Peoples T Writer\". Roll is NOT brittle. I could not locate a seriel number on it. It is in its original wood case which is in excellent condition except one spot on top edge. Base measures 8 3/4\" x 11 1/2\" and whole unit stands 4 1/4\" tall with dovetailed cover in place. The brass hooks are still in place. It weighs 5 pounds and 7 ounces. The celluloid cover on index card is near perfect with no cracks and the lettering is bright and clean.

Overseas buyers will be charged actual shipping costs as quoted by post office with no packing or handling fees. Please keep in mind that US postal fees are the least expensive in the world.
Packing: When shipping paper items, they are protected by plastic bag and placed between 2 pieces of cardstock and placed inside a priority mail flat rate or a manila envelope. Additionally, a note saying \"Please Do Not Bend\" is written in marker on the envelope. All items that are boxed go individually in plastic bags, are wrapped in newspaper with newspaper packing all around in stiff cardboard boxes.
