• Hand painted rims• Rope appears original, is taut, not frayed thin, and rope handle in tack• Both heads intact with no rips or excessive worn spots, probably calf skin • A military/antique drum expert puts the drum in the last quarter of the 19th Century• Leather ears all present, some curled• Measures 14.75\" diameter x 9.75\" deep• Snare tensions missing, some hardware remain (photo)• Provenance: Estate of past President of NH Historical Society through William Smith sales of NH• Two antique hard wood drum sticks measure 16.5” and 15.75” • Inside label reads:
W. H. Cundy, No 55 Court Street Boston, MA Manufacturer of Drums, and dealer in Musical Instruments of Every Description Also, agent for the celebrated Hicham Band Instruments
NOTE: Hicham is as spelled on label
Condition: Very good overall condition. The maple shell and rims show moderate scratching and some paint loss, but no major cracks or repairs. The skin heads show discoloration and wear, with no tears. Ears present and curled. Ropes discolored but seem still strong, unsure if replaced or when. One piece of brass snare hardware remains (see photos).
