Antique Logansport Indiana Photograph Album Civil War Soldiers Cdv Tintype Id ++ For Sale
This 8 ½” x 6 ¾” embossed dark green leather album was discovered in Logansport, Indiana and bears the inscription inside, “Mrs. C S Sellers from her Husband M L Sellers Logansport, Indiana. Inside are over 65 images, mostly cdv’s with tintypes mixed in depicting members of the Sutherland and Sellers families (some Whittenbergers, Suttons and Colins as well). Many of the photos are identified and most of the images come from Indiana photographers in Pierceton, Logansport Columbia City, Kokomo Warsaw and others. Included in the album are 6 images of Civil War soldiers in uniform. One is a tintype of a seated soldier with weapon identified as Morris Sellers. There are other identified photos of the same man in the album (out of uniform). There is a bust shot of a handsome young soldier by Ewing and black, simply identified on the page as “will” a standing man in uniform coat identified as “Edward Sutherland killed in Civil War brother of Cynthia Sutherland Sellers ( tear). Another is a standing image in uniform coat with Cairo, Illinois photographer stamp. There is a seated image of a very handsome man in uniform coat that is unmarked, but elsewhere in the album is an image out of uniform with a Fort Wayne, Indiana stamp that gives his first name as Ebenezer. This is a treasure trove of Indiana history that could provide the basis for many hours of wonderful research.
