Antique M1928 US Military Cavalry McClellan Saddle Marked U.S. JQMD? On One Flap:
$185.00

Antique M1928 U.S. Military Cavalry saddle that is in pretty good condition for it\'s age.. On the bottom edge of the right flap it is very, veryfaintly marked U.S. and what looks like JQMD followed by a number and E.N.S. But the marking is so, so faint that it isextremely hard to see. I have shown a picture of the marking in the 8th picture. The pommel shield is marked 12 inch seat.

(There are 12 pictures in all and the zoom feature is available. Also if you click on the main picture you will enlarge it and then larger images of all of the other pictures can be seen as well).

The saddle is old, but there are no split, oropen seams. The flapsshowwear with some crazing of the leather, but they are flexible. One of the flaps does have a small tear along it\'s upper side edge and I have shown this in picture #12. The stirrups leathers arequite stiff and do show wear, but I did not see any cracking of the leather.

The U.S. marked hooded stirrups do not match-- One is marked Spalding 1917 K.H.P. on the bottom of it\'s wooden stirrup. It\'s hood is two layers of leather and the hood is missing two rivets on one side. The wood of the stirrup is splintered at the bottom exterior corners.

The other hooded stirrup is marked with what looks like Perkins Campbell? followed by 1917 U.S. or C.S. and these markings are on one edge of the leather hood. But the markings are very worn and hard to read. It\'s wooden stirrup is in good condition. I have shown a picture of the markings that are on both of the stirrups in picture #9.

The saddle itself has some faint markings on it. On the rear right sidebar is the faint marking of what looks like P.P.F. and this is shown in picture #10. On the rider\'s side of the pommel to theleft of the shield is an extremely, extremelyfaint marking in the leather that looks like either E14, or possible B14, and I have tried to show this in picture #11.Then on the otherside of the pommel shield in the leather is another faint marking that looks like it is possibly the number50, but all that is clearly readable is the 0.

On each side of the saddle there are two leather girth billet straps and all of the billet straps are in good condition, no cracking of the leather.

The underside fleece is some-what compressed, but it is just about all there with a little bit missingunder the front edge of one of the sidebars (picture #4).

There are no missing brass pieces, all rings, foot staplesand oval slotted guard plates are there.

The tree of the saddle is in antique U.S. Military saddle is being sold \"no returns\" and I will gladly send to anyone any additional pictures that they might want. I will also be happy to answer any questions.
