Antique Majolica Wilhelm Schiller Vase Figural Warrior Double Handle Urn Huge:
You are offerding on a a rare antique Wilhelm Schiller & Son Majolica Vase. High Relief. Double handles are large figureheads of winged warriors. Scenes of battle decorate the body of the vase. Very ornate and flamboyantvase. Came from a wealthy Brookline Ma estate. Impressed number 8845. Signed WS&S. Also has some other hand painted markings. Excellent condition. No chips, cracks or repairs. No crazing. Measures 19" tall. Overall width is 19". In 1829, Wilhelm Schiller started a pottery with Freidrich Gerbing in Bodenbach. It produced very high quality terra cotta and majolica pieces. Vases, clock cases, jardinières and wall plaques were very popular, often in Classical and Renaissance motifs. This relationship lasted until 1885 when Schiller and his son went out on their own. By 1909, both companies had closed their doors.
