- You are offerding on an beautiful hand painted antique porcelainspoon rest by Meissen.
- Thisagorgeous spoon rest by the renownGermanporcelain company ofMeissen. Itwill make a great addition to your Meissen or fine china collection! This piece is first quality, beware of \"secondary\" quality pieces on the internet that have two lines through the crossed swords mark.One piece of a small Meissen collection that we will be listing, please see our other sales. - The spoon rest is a whiteporcelain hand painted, on the interior & exterior,witha bird, flowers & insects and a gilt trim edge. The bird looks like a green cardinal sitting atop a flowering tree branch. Onthe sides of the dish are a ladybug, grasshopper & butterfly. You do not see very many spoon rests on the market and most are in a floral design. This is very unusual to have a bird motif. The spoon rest is a \"horseshoe\" shape with an indentation at the narrow end for your spoon handle.
- The spoon rest is marked on the bottom with the Meissen blue crossed swords with pommels, which we believe dates the piece from 1850-1924, according to \" The Book of Meissen\" by Rontgen, page #270.The blue crossed swords mark can be clearly seen inphoto #2. Also, the number \"15\" is embossed on the bottom, some small handpainted initials in black, as well as some cursive letters & numbers incisedinto the porcelainwhich are all hard to read.
- Thespoon rest measures approx. 3\" by 2 1/2\".
- This item is an estate piece and it is in excellent condition for its age.There are no chips, cracks or repairs.We would remind buyers that this item is vintage & pre-owned with very light surface wear that does not detract from the piece.Please use the zoom tool on the photos provided to inspect the item.Photos are part of our description.
