Antique Mercury Glass Christmas Goblet Hand Painted Holly:

An American made antique mercury glass vase or goblet, made between 1850 and 1880. It\'s double walled, decorated between the walls with not mercury but silver nitrate (mercury glass is the official and recognized name for this type of antique silvered decorative glassware). The goblet is 4-1/4 inches high by 2-1/2 inches diameter at the rim. The front has a hand painted Christmas themed decoration of poinsettias and holly, the back is decorated with white leaves. There are no chips or breaks but natural age degradation to the inner silvering has caused a spotty appearance, especially to the back. The silvering is all but gone from the ringed pedestal base. The red, green, and white cold painted decoration is remarkably intact for its approximately 150 year age.
