This classic game of Old Maid was produced by Milton Bradley of Springfield Mass in the early 1900\'s. The game features the long-selling funnies faces design, but the woman on the cover is picking a daisy petal instead of holding a cat. The object of the game is to match your cards with such cards as: Buster Brown, Caddy Bob, Uncle Silas, Mose Lil, Alkaly Ike, Faithful Jeems and Hatchet Carry . There is only one Old Maid card so the person who has it at the end of the game is declared the Old Maid and has lost the game.
Old Maid is thought to be one of the earliest card games and may have originated in India or China. It is known as Black Peter in Germany, The Louse-Ridden One in France and Stink in Brazil. The game typically features humorous, and often sexist and stereotypical, illustrations for the cards.
This version is complete with the 20 pairs and one Old Maid card, plus one instructions card. Some of the cards are creased and have some wear as shown but the colors are very good ... bright and crisp. Backs are plain yellow. Cards measure 2 3/16\" x 3 7/16\".
The box measures 5 1/2\" x 6 3/4\" x 1\" and is in overall good condition with three of the four corners of the cover torn. I made no attempt to clean.See photos to fully appreciate beauty of these pieces as well as condition.
