This is a lovely, finely-done needlepoint picture of a lush bouquet of flowers. I believe this dates from the mid to late 19th Century.
I\'m not a needlepoint expert, but the size of the squares in the canvas seem small. The stitcvhes are not as small as petit point, but not as large as traditional needlepoint stitches.
The textile is in very good condition, especially for its age. There are a few sections among the flowers that were not stitched. I believe this was part of the design and some of those show broken threads in the canvas.
Also a faint darkening around the edges of the design. Maybe from the dye of the wool?
I don\'t know if this is the original frame, although it\'s a nice one. The needlework appears to be slightly larger than the opening, but I haven\'t taken it apart.Measurements including frame: 11\" x 12 1/2\" Measurements of needlepoint: 9\" x 10 1/2\"
